As readers of our weekly updates at City Hippy already know, construction work on our house project has come to a halt for a little over a month now. While we experienced moments of frustration at times, we are very excited about the direction, leadership and quality of work that our new builder and contractor now brings to our project. We have been able to quickly shift gears and transition into a new building crew and people.
The kind folks at Logix put us in contact with our new builder and we will detail the entire experience in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned to our weekly updates at City Hippy to read all about our transition. There have been some changes to the building and equipment going into our house as well. More pictures of the construction site and progress will start to appear on the site within the next couple of days.
During this time off, we posted some questions to Usenet to learn more about the materials, equipment and ideas that are going into our project. Usenet is a rather old-school area of the Internet and has been described as A distributed bulletin board system and the people who post and read articles thereon.. Think of it as the internet's original message board system - with almost no moderation, control or filtering. As you can probably imagine already, without any filtering the signal-to-noise ratio is very high. At times, you can access the resources and opinions of experts in many diverse fields but you must have a very thick skin and expect to sort through chaos to filter out any valuable information from the spam.
Here are the threads that we started and the comments that followed. We learned a lot from this experience and had a few laughs as well.
